Introduction

Why doesn't Uplay have this feature like Steam? I really don't know but since I could not find a proper tutorial for this on the internet I made this one for all the people who don't have a Gbit connection to download the same game multiple times. And isn't hard at all to do it.

In this post I will move The Crew from my desktop to my laptop. The only thing you need to do is copy the game files and the install state.

First locate the "install states" from the Uplay launcher. The default location for this is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\data" on a 64-bit OS. In this folder you will see several folders. Here you need to search the game you want to move. In every folder you will find a file called "uplay_install.state". Open each of this files with your desired text editor and search the name of the game.

After some searching I knew folder "413" is the folder of The Crew. Copy the "uplay_install.state" to a usb stick or something, we will need this later.

The next step is to install the game on the pc you want to play it on. In my case this is my laptop. This is nothing fancy just install it like always.

Remember the "Location for install"
When the game is downloading just close Uplay completely! We are not going to download this :).

Now copy the install state:

Now the game files:

Now start Uplay again and test the game files or just play the game.

I hope this tutorial saves you some time, I tested this method with The Crew and Assassins Creed: Black Flag both with 2 systems running Windows 8.1 64-bit. So I do not know if this works on Windows 7 and Windows 8,... The best way to "move" a game is of course download it but this method saves some time and bandwidth.

    1. On the new computer you do not have to download it. Just let the installer create the folders.

  6. In the case of buying a new pc, I want to move MMH6, however I can't find the game in the starting folder of this tutorial. This may be due to the fact that I installed the game from disk and patched it up later, without downloading through Uplay. Should I just install the game on the new pc, or does it require more steps to complete the transfer?

  10. Yes that is what I did. This tutorial is a little confusing I find. Mainly because one of the pictures is a network share and the file structures are confusing and the files doesn't seem to be where he says. I just did it again for The Division full game. Here is a simple process (for my sanity):

    1. Copy the game data, example in my case:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Tom Clancy's The Division

    2. Start the UPlay download on the migration machine. Quit out of UPlay when it finishes allocating disk space.

    3. Migrate the game data folder to the games subfolder (it wont exist there yet). In my case it was the exact same path:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Tom Clancy's The Division

    4. You will notice in the completed fileset you just copied is a uplay_install.state. CTRL+C Copy this (and read next step)

    5. Goto the data subfolder and remove all the present download files (should be a uplay_install.state file at least) and paste this in. For me this was:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\data\568

So as you can imagine, the "data" folder is where the partial downloads and things go while "games" is the finished stuff. The easiest way to identify the correct numerical folder for your faked download is to look at the modified date of the newly made state file that is created when you hit install in UPlay.

    1. Forgot to say, 6. Loadup UPlay, you shouldn't have to do anything and should see the download progress bar shoot up to a verify & finish. Just a side note: I have had a weird experience with The Division, I only ported over 29.46GB out of 32.50GB. Nothing in the entire Ubisoft data structure accounts for that. Not sure where the discrepancy lies. Nothing in appdata. Anyways, it picks up where the files are missing and it was still worth it.

  12. WOW thank you so MUCH, i bought Anno 2205 but due to the reason that it required DirectX11 i wasn´t able to play that on my old Laptop. BUT i was able to move the installer files to my 2nd notebook without downloading GBs of files again.

    THANK YOU :D

  16. Thanks man! It worked.

The game (AC3) was originally downloaded on my laptop which is running Windows 8.1 64-bit and I moved the game files to my Windows 8.1 32-bit desktop machine.

When I launched Uplay it immediately notified me that Assassin's Creed III is ready to play! :)

I browsed to the game library and verified the game files jut to be on the safe side =D
