Introduction
Why doesn't Uplay have this feature like Steam? I really don't know but since I could not find a proper tutorial for this on the internet I made this one for all the people who don't have a Gbit connection to download the same game multiple times. And isn't hard at all to do it.In this post I will move The Crew from my desktop to my laptop. The only thing you need to do is copy the game files and the install state.
First locate the "install states" from the Uplay launcher. The default location for this is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\data" on a 64-bit OS. In this folder you will see several folders. Here you need to search the game you want to move. In every folder you will find a file called "uplay_install.state". Open each of this files with your desired text editor and search the name of the game.
After some searching I knew folder "413" is the folder of The Crew. Copy the "uplay_install.state" to a usb stick or something, we will need this later.
The next step is to install the game on the pc you want to play it on. In my case this is my laptop. This is nothing fancy just install it like always.
Remember the "Location for install" |
When the game is downloading just close Uplay completely! We are not going to download this :). |
Now the game files:
Now start Uplay again and test the game files or just play the game.
I hope this tutorial saves you some time, I tested this method with The Crew and Assassins Creed: Black Flag both with 2 systems running Windows 8.1 64-bit. So I do not know if this works on Windows 7 and Windows 8,... The best way to "move" a game is of course download it but this method saves some time and bandwidth.
